Privacy Policy

1. Who We Are

Solara (“the app”, “we”, “our”) is a personal life companion application offering curated motivational quotes, personal notes, tasks, habit tracking, birthday reminders, focus timing (Pomodoro), and an on-device vault. This policy governs both the Solara mobile application for Android and our public web services.

2. Your Name & Greeting Personalization

Solara gives you the option to set a preferred display name during initial setup or at any time in your Vault settings.

• On-Device Use Only: Your name is stored locally in the on-device SQLite database and is used solely for on-screen personalization (such as “Good morning, Joe” or “Welcome to Solara, Joe ✨”) and motivational reflections.
• No Server Upload: We do not collect, transmit, upload, or store your name on our backend servers or with any third-party services.
• Optional: Setting a name is entirely optional. You may leave it blank, change it, or remove it at any time.

3. Information Stored on Your Device

By default, your personal content remains entirely on your physical device in a private, local SQLite database:

• Notes & Reflections: Title, content, pinned status, favorites, and collection tags.
• Tasks & Planning: Title, priority level, completion status, due dates, and collection tags.
• Habits & Routines: Title, schedule frequency, streak counts, and check-in history.
• Birthdays & Life Events: Names, birthdates, relationships, notes, and reminder thresholds.
• Collections: Custom organization tags and color labels.
• Quotes & Favorites: Personal quotes created by you, downloaded quote packs, and starred favorites.
• Preferences: Preferred quote language (English, Hindi, Sanskrit, Spanish, French, German) and light/dark theme preference.
• In-App Notification History: Local logs of reminders delivered on your device.

Important: Because this information is stored only on your phone, uninstalling the app or clearing its data without exporting a backup will permanently delete your stored content.

4. Information That May Leave Your Device

Personal entries are not uploaded. The only network interactions and external data flows are:

• Quote Catalog & Delta Sync: When you browse or download quote packs, the app connects to the quote catalog API. Requests contain only the selected language code, pack IDs, and your installed pack version number so the server can compute update deltas. No personal notes, tasks, habits, birthdays, or user names are ever sent.
• Ads config: The app fetches a public master.json file to read the is_ads flag and ad unit IDs. That request does not include your notes, tasks, habits, or birthdays.
• Sharing Quotes: If you choose to share a quote (as an image or text) via Android's share sheet, the quote image or text is handed off to the destination app you choose (such as Messages, WhatsApp, or Social Media). That third-party app’s privacy policy applies to the shared item.
• Vault JSON Export: The “Export JSON” feature generates a structured export file directly on your device. Solara does not transmit this export anywhere unless you deliberately share or copy the file yourself.
• Support & Quality Assurance Contact: If you submit a message through our Contact Us form or by email, we receive the name, email address, subject, and message content you provide, alongside technical network data (IP address, user agent) solely for responding to your inquiry, debugging, and service quality assurance.

5. Device Permissions

Solara requests only the minimal permissions required to deliver its core offline and reminder functionality:

• android.permission.INTERNET: Used to fetch optional public quote packs and catalog updates from the quote server, to download the public master.json ads flag file, and to load Google AdMob ads when is_ads is 1.
• android.permission.POST_NOTIFICATIONS: Used for delivering local daily quote reminders, birthday alerts, and Pomodoro focus timer notifications. You may grant or revoke this permission at any time in Android settings.
• android.permission.FOREGROUND_SERVICE & android.permission.FOREGROUND_SERVICE_SPECIAL_USE: Used to run the Pomodoro focus countdown service with an active status bar notification so the timer remains accurate when you switch apps.
• android.permission.RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED: Used to reschedule local reminder alarms automatically if your phone restarts.

Solara never requests access to your device contacts, precise location, camera, microphone, SMS, phone state, or external storage root.

6. European Union & UK Privacy Rights (GDPR / UK-GDPR / RGPD / DSGVO)

Under the General Data Protection Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2016/679 - GDPR) and UK Data Protection Act:

• Data Controller & Principle of Privacy by Design: Personal content entered into the Solara app is stored locally on your device under your direct control. Solara acts as a data controller only for voluntary support messages submitted via our contact channels.
• Legal Basis for Processing:
  • Contract & Legitimate Interest: Delivering requested quote pack downloads and responding to user support requests.
  • Consent: User-controlled settings and notification permissions.
• Your GDPR Rights:
  • Right of Access & Portability (Art. 15 & 20): You can export your entire personal database at any time using the on-device “Export JSON” tool in the Vault.
  • Right to Rectification & Erasure (Art. 16 & 17): You can edit or permanently delete any note, task, habit, birthday, or personal quote directly within the app, or clear app storage.
  • Right to Restriction & Objection (Art. 18 & 21): You may use the app in Strict Offline Mode to prevent any network connectivity.
  • France Specific Rights (Loi Informatique et Libertés): You have the right to define guidelines regarding the retention, erasure, and communication of your personal data after your death.
• No Cookies or Tracking: We do not deploy cookies, tracking pixels, or cross-site fingerprinting mechanisms.
• Supervisory Authority Complaints: You have the right to lodge a complaint with your competent data protection authority (e.g. CNIL in France, BfDI in Germany, AEPD in Spain, or ICO in the UK).

7. United States State Privacy Rights (California CCPA/CPRA, VA, CO, CT, TX)

Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), and similar state laws:

• No Sale or Sharing: Solara does not sell, rent, or share personal information with third parties for monetary or other valuable consideration, nor for cross-context behavioral advertising.
• Categories of Personal Information:
  • Identifiers: Optional user display name (stored only locally on-device); email address and name provided voluntarily for customer support.
  • Commercial Information: Records of quote pack downloads (version numbers only, non-identifying).
  • Internet / Network Activity: Standard server access logs (IP address, user agent) when synchronizing the quote catalog or submitting contact forms.
• Sensitive Personal Information: We do not collect sensitive personal information (such as financial account numbers, precise geolocation, racial or ethnic origin, or biometric data).
• Your Rights: You have the right to know what personal information is collected, request its deletion, and be free from discrimination for exercising your privacy rights.

8. Notice for Users in India (DPDPA 2023 & IT Act)

In accordance with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDPA) and the Information Technology Act, 2000:

• Purpose Specification: Any personal information provided (such as your chosen display name for daily motivation greetings) is processed solely for the specified purpose of on-screen personalization.
• Grievance Redressal: If you have any inquiries, concerns, or grievances regarding your data, you may contact our Grievance Officer at info@shaktiweb.in.

9. Android Cloud Backups

Automatic Android Cloud Backup is explicitly disabled (allowBackup="false") to prevent your personal notes, habits, and private entries from being inadvertently copied to cloud servers without your knowledge. You maintain full ownership and control through the manual Vault Export feature.

10. Analytics, Advertising, and User Accounts

• No Accounts: Solara does not require user registration, email sign-ups, or login credentials.
• No Analytics SDKs: We do not include third-party tracking, behavioral analytics, or telemetry libraries in the app.
• Advertising: Advertising is controlled by the public master.json file. If is_ads is 1, Google AdMob may show a bottom banner, in-feed native ads on content screens, occasional full-screen ads after natural pauses, and an optional app-open ad. If is_ads is 0, no ads are requested or shown. Personal notes, tasks, habits, and birthdays are never sent to AdMob.

11. Children’s Privacy (COPPA & International Standards)

Solara is designed for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13 (or under 16 in the European Union). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

12. Data Retention & Deletion

All personal content is stored locally on your device and remains there until you delete individual records, clear the application storage, or uninstall the app. Support inquiries submitted via the Contact Us form are retained in our secure database only as long as necessary to address your feedback, provide quality assurance, and resolve technical issues.
